Critical Reading and Writing in the University Community
Faculty on Record for three semesters. An undergraduate course. This course is created to help students transition from high school style of writings to that of a university level. The focus of this course is on strengthening research skills, sharpening writing and editing skills, engaging in critical analysis of a variety of academic and non-academic sources, and expand on the modalities that students write and create in.
Introduction to Creative Writing
Faculty on Record for one semester, two sections. An undergraduate course. I structured this course to introduce students to a creative nonfiction, fiction, and genre. While the focus of this class is to give students a brief introduction to these genres and various terminology, there is also a focus on generating creative works in all three genres. Students are also introduced to a variety of workshop models and provide feedback to their peers in all genres as well. There’s a emphasis on learning how to take feedback and implement throughout each genre as well.
Academic Writer’s Workshop
Faculty on Record for one semester. An undergraduate course. I crafted this course to take a nonfiction route. In this class, students continue to expand on critical analysis, but do so in ways that will directly impact them. Various assignments entail research their potential fields of studies and writing an essay about that research, compiling three sides to an argument, summarizing various perspectives without inserting bias. This class is crafted to diversify research processes and hone in original analysis. An important part of the writing process is also emphasized in this class–revision– as each project requires peer review at various parts before final submission. This is to help give students the time to revise, and learn how to implement revision strategies.
